Develop Vocabulary of Children Naturally

A good vocabulary is important because it helps children to learn and think about the bigger world. Listening, speaking, reading and writing – the four areas of communication can be improved through strong vocabulary. To succeed in school and later in place of higher education your kid need a strong vocabulary. Children learn by himself to some extent. But proper care is needed to improve the vocabulary of them. It is the duty of both parents and child care experts at preschool to help students new words every day so that their vocabulary is enriched. Here are some fun vocabulary-building activities that preschool teachers, as well as parents, can do every day.

In a workshop organized by a preschool San Dimas, CA, some Montessori school teachers of the neighborhood and the parents of some children of those preschool joined. Childcare experts suggest that kids should learn at least five unfamiliar words every week. The learning of children should be done in a joyful process. If you overtax them with so many new words they will be perplexed and confused.

Children need to listen to a new word at least 4-12 times before it becomes a part of their vocabulary. Use the same words in various sentences and in various contexts. Encourage them to use those words when they speak. Parents can help a lot to improve the language skill of the kid.

Read interesting books especially at bedtime for the children. From the story, they learn new words. If they cannot understand, simplify the meaning for them. It helps a lot. Encourage them to read books. When they find it difficult to read and understand the new words, help them promptly.

Sing songs for them. Music or singing has a universal appeal. Encourage them to sing with you. Help them to understand the meaning of the song. When they sing they memorize the words of the song and pronounce it. Singing helps them to develop their vocabulary.

Preschool experts say that children love rhymes. Encourage them to learn it by heart. Through the funny rhyming method, they learn new words. For an example when they say “twinkle twinkle little star” they come across various words – ‘twinkle’, ‘little’, ‘star’. Escort them under the open sky and make them understand how little star twinkles at night. Encourage them to visualize everything. Visualization is an excellent habit to learn new words.

Cartoons are bad for the children as they hamper the imagination power of the children. But some cartoons like “Peppa Pig” or “Masha and the Bear” helps a lot to teach children new words. Learning through animation is no doubt a joyful process to learn new words to the children.

A weekly visit to the local library with the children helps a lot to improve the vocabulary of the children. Introduce your children with new attractive books there. If needed take the help of the librarian. In the local library of San Dimas, CA kids come with their parents. Research shows a strong correlation between library use and literacy-building skills in young children.
